- The Children's Park - the reason most families come - is closed on the first Tuesday of every month from 8am to 4pm.
- Parking is adjacent to the park and along Eastside Street and Wakeforest Avenue. The Kirby Grove garage at Richmond and Wakeforest is the overflow, and that one charges.
- The Activity Lawn is 22,000 square feet and deliberately unprogrammed - frisbee, tag, picnics - while the Children's Park holds the climbing wall, the seven-foot slide, the Cosmo climbing sphere, lighted tunnels and a three-tiered water feature.
- The Overlook is a boardwalk that climbs gradually into the live oak canopy, which makes it one of the few genuinely shaded walks in the area.
- There is a free Reading Room with books for every age plus newspapers and magazines, and the park publishes separate rule sets for the park, the Children's Park and the dog park.
