The Heights Theater

The Heights Theater is a 1920s Art Moderne movie house on 19th Street, restored as a listening room that holds anywhere from 125 to 600 depending on how the floor is set, and run by the same people as the Kessler in Dallas. It is the gentlest door on this list: most shows are all ages, parking on the surrounding streets is free, and the schedule is the same every night, lobby at six, doors at seven, show at eight. The one thing to know before you buy is that the ticket type decides your seat. Only the four-seat tables and the eight-seat suites are assigned; general admission seated and the balcony are first come, so arrive early if you care where you sit. There is no ATM and merch tables are often cash only.

What the venue actually says

  • Most shows are all ages unless the ticket page says otherwise. Those 17 and under generally need a parent or guardian, and show content is not rated.
  • Bags smaller than 14 by 14 inches are recommended, with exceptions for medically necessary items. Any bag may be searched.
  • Parking is free on 19th, Ashland and Rutland Streets, and in the Aspire Dental lot after 6pm. There is no venue lot.
  • The standard evening: lobby and bar at 6pm, showroom doors at 7pm, show at 8pm, closing about an hour after the show ends.
  • Open on show nights only, generally Thursday to Saturday, 6pm to midnight.
  • Ticket types vary by show: general admission standing, general admission seated, Reserved Gallery (the balcony), four-seat tables and eight-seat suites. Only tables and suites are assigned seats; everything else is first come, first served.
  • Tickets are paperless through Prekindle. Door sales happen if a show is not sold out. Tixel is the only authorised resale and waitlist. All sales are final, but you can rename a ticket yourself up to 24 hours before the show.
  • There is no ATM on site, and many artists take cash only for merchandise.
  • Full walk-up bar downstairs and a second bar in the upstairs Reserved Gallery. No table service, and no food.
  • The recording policy is set by each artist. Flash photography is never allowed.
  • Wheelchair access is by a ramp from the lobby to the floor, with accessible seats close to the stage and clear sight lines.
  • The balcony takes 25 to 135 guests; the two suites hold eight to ten each within fifty feet of the stage.
