Paddle through downtown Houston with skyscrapers on both banks, past turtles, herons, and the occasional alligator gar. Guided sunset and bat-colony paddles are the ones to book.

What they actually say
- Rentals and guided tours run from Buffalo Bayou Kayak Tours at 1019 Commerce Street, Allen's Landing, in the Sunset Coffee Building downtown. Paid parking is the Bayou Lot at 901 Commerce.
- Rentals start at $20 an hour for a single kayak or paddleboard and $35 for a tandem; two hours are $40 and $65, and a full day $55 and $85.
- Everyone signs a waiver, a guardian signs for anyone under 18, and alcohol is prohibited. Life vests are provided and everyone wears one.
- Children need to be at least 6 to paddle their own seat, and the Bat Bridge tour is ages 7 and up.
- The guided Skyline tour is $55 for two hours, departing at 10am and 1pm; the Bat Bridge tour is $60.
- Tours go ahead in light rain but are cancelled for lightning, severe weather or high water, with a refund or a new date.
- The Buffalo Bayou Paddling Trail is about 26 miles from Highway 6 to Allen's Landing with ten access points, including Eleanor Tinsley Park and Sabine Street. Swimming in the bayou is prohibited.
