The date here is a placeholder until the NFL releases its schedule, which it does every May. Until then the only certainty is that the Texans play eight regular-season home games at Reliant Stadium starting in September, and the home opener is one of the two or three that sell hardest.

If you are buying, understand that most Texans tickets move through resale rather than the box office, and prices swing with the opponent more than with the date. A divisional rival costs a multiple of what a mid-table visitor does for the same seat.

Tailgating is the actual event for a large share of the crowd, and Reliant's lots open hours before kick-off. If somebody invites you to one, that is the better offer than the seat.

September football in Houston means the roof is usually closed and the building is air-conditioned, which makes it far more comfortable than an outdoor stadium in Texas. Parking is sold in advance by coloured lot. Check the Texans' site once the schedule drops.
