The start of the Astros' home season at Daikin Park downtown, against the Texas Rangers, where the surrounding blocks turn into a street party.

Before you go

Opening Day at Daikin Park is a downtown event as much as a baseball one. The ballpark sits at the eastern edge of downtown at 501 Crawford, and the bars and restaurants around it — along with the whole of EaDo a few blocks further east — fill from late morning for an afternoon game.

Two things to plan around. First, the home opener sells out and it sells out early, usually the day single-game tickets go on sale in the winter; the resale market is where most people end up. Second, the retractable roof means weather never cancels it, so an April forecast is not a reason to hold off.

The practical advantage over almost every other MLB park is transit. METRORail's Green and Purple lines stop at the ballpark, and downtown garages are a short walk, so driving into the immediate blocks is the worst of the available options.

MLB publishes the full schedule the previous summer, so the exact date and first pitch for 2027 are confirmed on the Astros' site well before it comes around.

In Downtown: Theater District, ballpark, and 7 miles of tunnels.
