Wildly modified vehicles roll down Allen Parkway in the largest art car parade in the world, free to watch. Produced by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.

Before you go

The 40th Art Car Parade runs on April 10, 2027, along Allen Parkway and into downtown, and it is free to watch. If you see one Houston event, this is a strong candidate — it is the thing the city does that no other city does, and it costs nothing.

Pick your spot by what you want. Allen Parkway gives you the cars at speed with the downtown skyline behind them, which is the photograph everyone takes. The downtown end is slower and more crowded but you get longer with each vehicle, which matters because the detail on these things is the point.

Arrive earlier than feels necessary. The parkway closes to traffic well before the parade and the good kerb space along the route goes early; so does the shade, which in April Houston is not a small consideration.

The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art runs it, and the parade is the public face of a weekend that also includes a ball and a preview showing of the cars. Times and route details are posted on their site closer to the date.

In Downtown: Theater District, ballpark, and 7 miles of tunnels.
